SOUL
Does man have a soul, or is man a soul? This is a valid question because
there are some that believe that man does not have a soul, but that man is a
soul. What does the Bible say about this question? The Bible must be the final
authority for our belief about this, in fact, those who say that man does not
have a soul use the Bible to prove their point. The problem with their system is
that they do not use the entire Bible, but use certain parts to try to establish
their belief. They use none of the scriptures that teach that man has a soul.
The purpose of this article is to prove by the Bible that, MAN IS A SOUL, and
that, MAN HAS A SOUL.
MAN IS A SOUL
Genesis 2:7, “And the Lord God
formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath
of life; and man became a living soul.”
Act 2:41, “Then they that gladly received his word were
baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand
souls.”
Acts 2:43, “And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders
and signs were done by the apostles.”
Romans 13:1, “LET every soul be
subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers
that be are ordained of God.”
1Corinthians 15:45, “And so it
is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a
quickening spirit.”
James 5:20, “Let him know, that
he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from
death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.”
1Peter 3:20, “Which sometime
were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah,
while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by
water.”
MAN HAS A
SOUL
Genesis 35:18, “And it came to
pass, as her soul was in departing, (for she died) that she called his name
Benoni: but his father called him Benjamin.”
Matthew 10:28, “And fear not
them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him
which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”
Matthew 26:38, “Then saith he
unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and
watch with me.”
Luke 1:46-47, “And Mary said,
My soul doth magnify the Lord, And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my
Saviour.”
Luke 2:35, “(Yea, a sword shall
pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be
revealed.”
John 12:27, “Now is my soul
troubled; and what shall I say? Father save me from this hour: but for this
cause came I unto this hour.”
Acts 2:27, “Because thou wilt
not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see
corruption.”
1Thessalonians 5:23, “And the
very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul
and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Hebrews 4:12, “For the word of
God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even
to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is
a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
3John 2, “Beloved, I wish above
all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul
prospereth.”
There can be no doubt; the scriptures show us that not only is man a soul
(a conscious being), but that man has a soul as well. According to
1Thessalonians 5:23 man is made up of spirit, body, and soul.
